News / BIG Info Day
LOCAL community groups are being urged to attend an event in Lerwick Town Hall later this month to find out how to better access lottery funding.
Big Lottery Fund officials will host two sessions on Saturday 21 April with representatives from voluntary and community groups.
Shetland Islands Council’s grants co-ordinator Michael Duncan said the BIG Info Day was an opportunity not to be missed.
“In the current financial climate, external funding is becoming ever more important for voluntary organisations and communities, to help finance projects and address local needs,” he said.
In the past financial year, two local organisations received significant support from the Big Lottery Fund.
Hjaltland Housing Association received a grant of £351,487 to help young people manage their tenancy, and to increase their skills in training, education and employment.
Voluntary Action Shetland was awarded £264,960 to set up a new befriending service for older people.
In addition, the lottery small grant scheme ‘Awards for All’ supported seven community projects across Shetland, providing total funding of £47,083.
