News / Crofters vote
CROFTERS in Shetland are being reminded they have until 15 March to cast their vote for one of four candidates to represent the islands on the new Crofting Commission.
The Scottish Crofting Foundation says it is vital to have a good turnout to ensure the new commission has a mandate to act in the interests of crofting.
SCF Chairman Derek Flyn said it was important to read the instructions about the alternative vote on the ballot paper before casting a vote.
“Many excellent candidates have come forward and we wish them well in this historic election that SCF has campaigned for over many years,” he said.
The Shetland candidates are:
Cunninsgburgh crofter Peter Dodge;
former NFU branch chair Kathleen Sinclair;
David Smith, who is part time adviser to Jean Urquhart MSP; and
Crofters Commission assessor Marjorie Williamson.
Their personal statements can be found at http://www.crofterscommission.org.uk/crofting-elections.asp
