News / Community development in Burra and Trondra
BURRA and Trondra are the latest in a string of Shetland rural communities to look into setting up a community development company.
Local resident Chloe Mackie has organised a community development forum to be held on Saturday 10 March in the Burra hall between 4 and 5pm.
There will be a number of short presentations from speakers such as Maree Hay, from the Northmavine Community Development Company and west mainland community worker Mick Clifton.
Tommy Coutts of the council economic development unit will also contribute to the discussions.
Ms Mackie said she would like to encourage as many local people as possible to attend.
“I would love to see more facilities in Burra and Trondra for both residents and tourists and I hope that by setting up a community development company we can look into the best ways of achieving this.
“In the current economic climate this is also the best way to channel funding and grants into the community and most importantly to create our own revenue streams.
‘I hope all local residents will attend the forum. It is important to get the input from everybody who will have a stake in the project and so that they can influence how this project takes shape,” she said.
