News / Chess championship

SHETLAND young chess players have been invited to register for the first junior chess tournament on Saturday 3 March at Shetland Museum and Archives.
 
Any player under 18 years old is eligible to take part in the competition, which will comprise of five rounds against the clock. Entry fees are £5 per player, and prizes of £60, £30 and £15 will be awarded to the three top placed players.

The winners will go on to take part in the senior championship on Saturday 14 April.
The competition has been sponsored by local engineering firm Tait Electronics, whose employee Alexander Young is a regular at Shetland Chess Club’s Thursday sessions at Islesburgh House.
