News / Changes at helicopter base
CHC HELICOPTERS is understood to be losing its search and rescue contract at the bases at Sumburgh and Stornoway to Bristow Helicopters as of next year.
An official announcement from the Department of Transport is expected to be made next week.
BBC Scotland said that Bristow will run the service until 2017 when a new civilian contract for ten bases across the UK will come into force.
Aviation journalist Jim Ferguson said in an interview with STV that no one would see any changes to the service at “the sharp end.”
