News / Planning for Bermuda

SHETLAND Island Games Association is encouraging any local sports organisations who wish to take part in the 2013 NatWest Island Games, to be held in Bermuda, to join the planning discussions.

Chairman of the local games association, Andrew Inkster, said: “Bermuda 2013 will be a big task for all competitors who would like to take part.

“It will be our most expensive games to date and we would really like to plan our travel early and raise funds towards everyone’s costs.

Speaking for the Shetland Swimming Association, its secretary Lesley Hutchison said: “We plan to take a full team again to Bermuda and the swimmers have been in training for some time now.

“To help towards our costs we have a number of fundraising plans including raffles, backpacking, word competitions and a coffee afternoon at the Gulberwick Hall on Sunday 25 March.”

Mr Inkster added: “We expect to have a smaller team than in recent games but there is no doubt that Team Shetland will be at the next games.

“The further afield islands of Bermuda, Falkland and St. Helena always send a team to Europe, so it is only right that we return the favour on this occasion.”
