News / School athletics boost

PRIMARY schools throughout Shetland are joining a project to encourage young kids to take up athletics.

Athletics Zone runs from January to March, culminating in a large indoor event at Clickimin on Sunday 18 March. Sessions will allow children to try out a range of activities including “speed bounce”, vertical jumps, the javelin and relay races.

Elaine Park, of Shetland Athletics Club, said: “We are really excited to see what young talent this initiative brings out among the upper primary age group at the competition in March.

“We are also delighted to see a voluntary coaching commitment to the project in Brae and Sandwick.”
