News / Banff boat escorted
A BANFF registered fishing boat was escorted into Lerwick harbour after suffering steering problems on Wednesday morning.
The Reliance II (BF 800) contacted Lerwick Port Authority at 6.15am to report they had limited steering as they were approaching the harbour limits due to a broken ball joint in the hydraulic steering ram.
A coastguard spokesman said the crew had to virtually lock the steering, but they managed to reach safety despite strong westerly winds.
The port’s pilot boat Knab reached the fishing boat around 8am and escorted her in to Alexandra Wharf, where she berthed around 8.30am
