News / Crofters concern
THE SCOTTISH Crofting Federation has expressed disappointment at the lack of official information provided for candidates who are seeking election to the new Crofting Commission.
SCF chairman Derek Flyn said that late last year the federation had been given assurances that information for potential candidates would be discussed prior to the deadline for nominations closing.
“If these meetings were to have taken place before the deadline for nominations – which is set for 26 January – this might have encouraged more candidates to emerge.
“Despite this missed opportunity, the SCF hopes there will still be a healthy field of candidates and is encouraging crofters to think about standing for the new body,” he said.
Meanwhile the SCF is also reminding crofters who wish to vote in the election to the new Crofting Commission that they have until Thursday to make sure that their names are on the crofting electoral role.
