News / Freight boat to cover for Isle of Man ferry
ONE OF the two northern isles freight boats will be chartered to the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company during three and half weeks as of the middle of April to cover for the dry-docking of its main ferry.
Ferry operator NorthLink said the sub-charter of either the Helliar or the Hildasay was part of the company’s efforts to minimise the annual subsidy it receives from the Scottish Government.
A NorthLink spokesman said: “We’ve looked at historic carryings and we’re confident that we will be able to cope with freight demand during this period.
“We have already flagged this up with the main Shetland hauliers which is the group which potentially could be most affected, and they have agreed to work with us to manage demand.”
