News / Youth choose
YOUNG people in Shetland aged from 12 to 25 are being asked to come up with ideas to spend £8,000 in the isles.
The YouChoose steering group are sending out an application form to let groups bid for a share of the cash to fund projects that will benefit young folk. The only criteria is that young people are involved in the submission, though they can call on the support of adults.
The steering group includes members of Shetland Youth Voice, Shetland’s MSYPs and various council officials.
The scheme is part of the participatory budgeting process that is provided money for community projects in Staney Hill and Sound.
Applications are available from Iselsburgh, www.youngscot.org/local/shetland or youchoose@shetland.gov.uk.

Shetland News is asking its many readers to consider start paying for their dose of the latest local news delivered straight to their PC, tablet or mobile phone.
Journalism comes at a price and because that price is not being paid in today’s rapidly changing media world, most publishers - national and local - struggle financially despite very healthy audience figures.
Most online publishers have started charging for access to their websites, others have chosen a different route. Shetland News currently has over 600 supporters who are all making small voluntary financial contributions. All funds go towards covering our cost and improving the service further.
