News / Free fund finders for groups
SHETLAND Islands Council has launched two new online systems to help community groups find funding from outside the isles.
The council is inviting local groups to sign up to ‘Shetland 4 Community’ and ‘Grant Adviser’, which are both free to join.
Shetland 4 Community – http://www.open4community.info/shetland – has detailed information on more than 2,500 external funding sources including European, government, Lottery and other trust and charity sources.
Grant Adviser is designed for internal council use, but outside group can gain assistance through the council’s grants unit on 01595 743828.
SIC grants coordinator Michael Duncan said: “At a time of potential future budget cuts, it is really important that community groups are able to pro-actively find new ways of getting hold of funding.
“This software is free to use and will help groups to find other sources of funding, maximising the money they are able to secure.”
The council paid 50 per cent of the cost of the software, the rest of the cash coming from the European LEADER programme. They are available for the next two years.
