News / Ukrainian gymnasts on three week visit
SHETLAND Gymnastic Club will play host to two world class gymnasts who will be in the isles for three weeks starting on Saturday.
Ukrainian former World Champion Iryna Krasnianska and former European Champion Dariya Zgoba will help coaching the isles’ 180 young gymnasts.
Dariya and Iryna, who both competed in the Beijing Olympic Games, have also volunteered to help judge at the club’s annual competition on Sunday 20 November.
While in Shetland the girls also plan to make various school visits to help with teaching and provide inspirational talks to pupils and even write autographs if required.
Gymnastic coach Mark Wylie said: “It’s been a lot of hard work gaining their visas but I’m confident it will be well worth it; we all hope to learn so much from both gymnasts.”
The visit is being sponsored by Shetland Farm Dairies and C. Kelly Opticians, and has also received financial help from sportscotland.
