News / Another £1.5m for building houses
A GOVERNMENT cash injection of more than £1.5 million will help Hjaltland Housing Association to build 32 new affordable homes in Shetland.
The money comes on top of almost £625,000 granted to the association to convert the former North Star cinema and music venue into 15 flats in Lerwick.
Of the new cash, £1.2 million is to build 24 houses at Strand, in Tingwall, with the rest going to erect eight properties at Ladies Mire, at the north end of Brae.
The move has been welcomed by the housing association, the council and the construction industry.
