WEDNESDAY saw the arrival of the big hitters at this year’s Screenplay film festival, writes Jordan Ogg.

Top producers Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley were at the Garrison Theatre to take audience questions after the screening of their 2010 film Made In Dagenham.

Tonight the producers are in the hot seat again for the showing of their 1992 film The Crying Game. It features visiting A-lister Jim Broadbent as a central character and will be essential viewing for movie buffs looking forward to his appearance in Lerwick on Saturday.

Festival curators Linda Ruth Williams and Mark Kermode were there for the screening. Williams is a film academic based in London, while Kermode is a regular presenter on the BBC 1’s Culture Show.

He launches his new book The Good, The Bad and The Multiplex, a polemic on the present state of cinema on Friday night. Never shy of causing a stir, Kermode promises to be an entertaining draw.

Thursday also sees a host of new local film on show for the Home Made in Shetland event, which runs from 6pm at the Garrison Theatre.
