News / Flood closes SIC cashiers office
A BURST pipe in the men’s toilet at Shetland Islands Council’s finance department has forced staff to move offices to receive rent and pay benefits.
The ground floor offices at Charlotte House, on Lerwick’s Commercial Road, were flooded on Thursday morning and will be closed all day.
People looking for looking to pay cashiers or receive housing benefit have been redirected to the council’s emergency planning offices at 20 Commercial Road, next Star Rent-A Car opposite Viking bus station.
Cashiers can be contacted by phone on 01595 744626, while housing benefits staff are available on 01595 744682.
Anyone with queries about local taxation or rents should contact finance staff at 28 Burgh Road, next to Montfield hospital.
Tax staff can be called on 01595 744654 and rents staff are on 01595 744648.
A council spokeswoman said that services had not been interrupted and they hoped that council workmen would fix the leak so that Charlotte House could reopen on Friday.
