News / Heroin helped me sleep
A SHETLAND man who purchased heroin to help him sleep pled guilty to possessing the drug at Lerwick Sheriff Court yesterday (Thursday).
John Hastings, of 140 Sandveien, Lerwick, was arrested after being caught with £20 of the Class A drug in a police raid on a house at Lerwick’s Kveldsro Gardens on 21 January.
The 54 year old told the court he had great difficulty sleeping, but his doctor would only offer him anti depressants. “The doctor refused to give me any assistance with sleeping tablets,” he said, admitting that his decision to buy illegal drugs was “the worst mistake of my life”.
Sheriff Graeme Napier deferred sentence until 2 June for reports, describing the case as “bizarre in the extreme”.
