News / Church raising funds for Haiti
A SHETLAND church is organising an evening of gospel music to raise funds for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.
Members and friends of Dunrossness Baptist Church will stage the event, which will feature a silent auction, teas, coffees and homebakes, at 7.30pm on Saturday (23 January).
The gospel music will be led by the church’s music group and local musicians, while local artist Paul Bloomer has already pledged a print of his esteemed work, as have local knitters, with more pledges coming in.
Church pastor Reverend Ian Thomson, urged as many people as possible to attend, stressing that every penny raised would go to aid agencies working on the ground in Haiti.
“I have been delighted with the pledges of support we have received so far and I’m sure, once again, with everybody pulling together the generosity of the people of Shetland will go some small way to making a difference to those who have lost so much,” he said.
The church will open from 3 to 5pm on Saturday for auction items to be donated. More information can be found by contacting Dr Thomson on 01950 460181.
