News / Fiancée fight lands trio in court
A SHETLAND couple had a bad start to their engagement yesterday when they appeared in handcuffs at Lerwick Sheriff Court charged with fighting after a night out.
Sean Harnett, aged 40, of Flat 7, Mill Lane, Lerwick, his 41 year old fiancée Pauline Robertson, of 8 Leaside, Mossbank, and her 21 year old daughter Samantha Arthur, of 10 Staney Hill, Lerwick, all admitted causing a breach of the peace at Harnett’s home on Thursday night.
The court heard that during a night out an argument developed between the couple, who had been planning an engagement party this weekend.
When they went back to the house a “violent disturbance” broke out between all three.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said the police were called, but their conduct did not improve, with Robertson being “particularly aggressive” to the police and Harnett slamming a door in the officers’ faces.
“It took some considerable time and effort before they moderated their behaviour,” he said.
Defence agent Chris Dowle said all three were “thoroughly ashamed of what happened”.
Sheriff Graeme Napier fined Harnett and Robertson £200 each and deferred sentence on Arthur for good behaviour.
