New pay offer for Loganair staff – but union receives mandate for strike action
THE UNION Unite says it has received an “overwhelming mandate” for strike action from its Loganair membership.
The union however said talks have continued with the company throughout the dispute and progress has been made with a new pay offer being put to the workers for consideration.
A spokesperson added: “There is a ballot being held on that enhanced offer.
“We will await the decision of our Loganair membership on this offer before any next steps need to be considered.”
It was previously reported that more than 60 Loganair cabin crew were involved in a ballot on strike action. The ballot was open until today (27 October).
The staff were based at the Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Isle of Man and Southampton airports. Loganair operates direct flights to Shetland from Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
The union’s general secretary Sharon Graham previously said: “Not only is Loganair financially healthy, but its cabin crew are being asked to do more and more at a time when job insecurity has risen for workers.”
Loganair has been asked for a response to the latest update from Unite.
However, it previously said that “like every airline, we are operating in a very challenging economic climate, with fuel costs up significantly and consumer demand softening”.
The airline had also said: “We value our cabin crew greatly, and we remain committed to reaching an agreement through the recognised collective bargaining process, with hopes that Unite return to the table.
“We do not expect this situation to affect our services, and our priority remains the smooth running of our flights for customers.”
