Late licence approved for Rising North afterparty
A LATE licence has been granted for a Rising North music festival event at Mareel next month.
The application, for extended hours from 1am to 3am on Saturday 15 August, was approved by Shetland’s licensing board on Monday.
The age 18+ event will act as something of an afterparty to Rising North’s main Friday night event at the Clickimin.
It will see Edinburgh-based techno DJ franck take to the stage, with support from local DJ Saul Hardie.
Tickets are due to go on sale from 10am on 31 July.
Council convener Bryan Peterson said at Monday’s meeting that Rising North was a well organised event – something which board chair Neil Pearson agreed with, adding that “it is becoming an event of local significance”.
Councillors also approved late licences for Rising North events at Mareel last year.
This year’s festival is due to take place between Thursday 13 August and Sunday 16 August.
Visiting acts Ash and Pale Waves will headline the two main nights at the Clickimin on the Friday and Saturday, with local acts such as First Foot Soldiers, The Revellers and The Plonkys also on the bill.
The Thursday will see a range of free gigs around Lerwick, with Sunday set to host a final spree to round things off.
