Business / Two Lerwick bars highly commended at UK pub awards
TWO LERWICK bars have been highly commended and shortlisted for awards celebrating the best pubs across the UK.
Over 250 pubs and bars across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have been shortlisted for a county winner title at the 2026 National Pub and Bar awards.
The Dowry and The Lounge Bar, both in Lerwick, are the two businesses in the running from Shetland.
Each will receive a certificate for being highly commended in their areas, and will be in the running to win a trophy as the best bar in the north of Scotland.
The annual event, which returns to London for its 10th anniversary on Wednesday 10 June, will welcome all nominees to come together and celebrate their success.
The 94 county winners will be announced live at the event, as well as the consumer-voted pub and bar group of the year awards.
The Dowry was also shortlisted in 2025, alongside the Douglas Arms (Marlex).
“Our bigger and better format that debuted in 2025 was such a success, we can’t wait to roll it out again this year,” said Tristan O’Hana, editor of Pub & Bar magazine, which hosts the event.
“The fact that the celebrations last from the long Easter weekend, when we celebrate this year’s county nominees, right up until the awards night at the beginning of summer is no less than this wonderful industry deserves.
“We just want to do what we can to spread the word about these brilliant businesses.”
