PHILIP Mowat took the crown at Shetland Darts Association’s (SDA) double start grand prix at the Burra hall on Saturday.
A total of 53 players entered the event, with Mowat seeing off Kyle Tait 4-1 in the quarter-finals. Ben Ruddick also beat Marc Henry 4-1, John Philip Hughes edged past Ryan Mustard 4-3 and Craig Main beat Calum Williamson by the same score.
The best of nine leg semi-finals saw Main beat Hughes 5-0, and Mowat overcome Ruddick 5-2 to set up the final.
There it was Mowat who emerged as a 6-2 winners to win the double start, double out competition.
Mowat also won the highest checkout prize of bottle of whisky after checking out an impressive 147.
On the night 180s were recorded by from Craig Main (four), Roger Irvine, Kyle Tait and Calum Williamson (all two), Evan Goudei, John Robert Scott, Grant Williamson, Aiden Grogan, Mowat and Marc Henry.
The SDA thanked the Burra hall for hosting, their bar staff for their work during the night and Gideon Ward of Shetland Fish for their sponsorship of the event.
The next grand prix takes place on Saturday in the Lerwick Legion. Players are to be registered by 5.30pm for a 6pm start.
SHETLAND Indoor Bowling Club recently held its annual Lewis Smith Quaich Singles competition.
With a large entry of players, the usual round-robin format was replaced by a group format, with group winners progressing to the semi-finals and then the final.

After some excellent bowling across the four groups, Colin Bain, Willie Coutts, Rosie Jamieson and John Sharp topped the groups.
Jamieson faced Coutts in the first semi-final, with Coutts producing a top-class performance to win 8–3.
The second semi-final saw Bain take on Sharp, with Bain delivering a dominant display to secure a 10–2 victory.
The final was another excellent match, and only a wonderful last bowl from Coutts on the final end secured a narrow 5-4 victory, allowing him to retain the trophy.
The club thanked all players and spectators for attending, and said how encouraging it was to see one of the largest entries to a singles competition for many years.
FOOTBALL player George Robesten was a late substitute as his Weston-super-Mare side returned to winning ways in the National League South.
The club saw off Eastbourne 3-1 at home, with Robesten brought on for the final five minutes, to keep the pace with the title pack on Saturday.
The former Scalloway winger is a new addition to the club, having joined last month.
