DOGS Against Drugs is to receive another grant of £30,000 from the Scottish Government.
First minister John Swinney said the charity – which has spoken of funding troubles in recent years – plays an “important role supporting Police Scotland to disrupt the illegal supply of drugs” while also delivering education.
Project manager and dog handler Michael Coutts said the grant was “much appreciated”.
AN UP Helly Aa food fayre is taking place at the museum in Lerwick on Sunday afternoon, with live cookery demonstrations on the menu.
Stalls will include Food from Filska along with the Peerie Shop Café, Blyde Welcome, Skibhoul Bakery, Cooke Scotland, West Coast Cakes and Sound Butchers.
Speaking about the event, which will run from 11am to 5pm, Taste of Shetland chair Marian Armitage said: “We have such a fantastic range of local produce here in Shetland and what better time to share that with folk from all over the world than when they’re flocking here to enjoy the spectacle of Up Helly Aa.”
PLANNING permission has now been granted for a dog park in the Girlsta area.
The ‘Peerie Paws Park’ will aim to let people exercise their dogs securely with no disturbance to sheep and other livestock. More information will be made available via the park’s Facebook page.
THE NEXT ‘Tae Sup wi’ a Fifer’ event at Mareel is fast approaching as Scottish musician James Yorkston brings together another group of creatives to tour around the country.
Yorkston will bring Andy Irvine, Katherine Priddy and Len Pennie to Mareel in Lerwick on Thursday 19 February, mixing music with poetry.
Tickets are available from Mareel and online.
