VALKYRIES captain Charis Scott has set a remarkable record after scoring her 1,000th point for the club over the weekend.

Two tries for Scott for Valkyries at the weekend against Highland was enough for her to cross the incredible milestone, which she has reached while helping her team to secure a string of league trophies.

Charis Scott.

Shetland Rugby Club said Scott had scored 133 tries in just 56 appearances, making the record even more incredible.

Unfortunately she reached the figure on a disappointing day for the Valkyries, who fell to a 53-17 against Highland.

However her opponents named her the player of the match. Valkyries named Sula Maclennan as their forward of the match, and Kathleen Jamieson as back of the match.

The Shetland men’s rugby team were also defeated on the road on Saturday, losing out to Ross Sutherland 57-8.

Steven Casey was named as their player of the match.

SPENCER Moreland played the first 60 minutes for Brechin as they made it two wins from two with a 5-1 demolition of Wick.

The result puts Brechin up to second in the Highland League.

There was disappointment for George Robesten however, who is on loan at Strathspey Thistle from Ross County.

His team fell 4-3 to Nairn County, one of his former loan sides, on Saturday, with Robesten starting the match for Strathspey.

There was also a disappointing outcome for Shetlanders Henry Oldbury and Brandon Mckay in their match for Golspie Sutherland against Halkirk.

Halkirk United were 5-1 winners in the Jock Mackay cup semi-final tie.

DIGGERS and Benchwarmers both picked up wins in the latest action from the indoor volleyball mixed league last Friday.

The first match of the night saw Diggers take on Venture Globetrotters, with Diggers taking an early four point lead.

Venture soon responded to level the score at 7–7 and the set remained closely contested, but Thomas Clarke’s accurate and forceful serving gave Diggers the edge.

Maintaining their composure, Diggers closed out the set 25–18.

The second set proved even more competitive, with the teams neck and neck up to 15–15. However Diggers soon rediscovered their rhythm, executing consistent serves and smart, composed plays to regain control.

Their momentum carried them to a 25–15 win, extending their lead to 2–0.

Venture, determined to get something on the board, raced ahead into a 10-4 lead in the final set with clever plays and resilient defence.

But after a few tactical adjustments and renewed energy from the bench, Diggers fought back to level the score at 12–12.

Nathan Reid and Michaela Christie made a strong impact as Diggers surged ahead to take the set 25–15 and secure an emphatic 3–0 victory.

For Venture, Karl Sinclair and Anne Bennett were named most valuable players fortheir consistent performances while for Diggers it was Ruth Christie and Thomas Clarke who stood out.

In game two it was Benchwarmers against Rexel, and Benchwarmers raced into an early 6-2 lead after strong teamwork from Sarah-Marie Riise and Joshua Morrison.

Benchwarmers pulled ahead to 14–6, and when they extended that lead to 23-14 it seemed a matter of time before the set was won.

However Rexel found their rhythm with a serving run from Kevin Jones to bring the score back to 24-20, forcing Benchwarmers to call a timeout.

Benchwarmers maintained their composure to close out the first set 25–20.

They carried this momentum into the second set but were being matched by Rexel, with the score levelled up at 7-7.

Benchwarmers moved in front to 18-13, but Rexel refused to back down and roared back to level it up at 19-19 again.

A well-placed hit from Ryan Jamieson tied it once more at 22–22, but Steven Leask rose to the occasion, delivering three unstoppable outside attacks to seal the set 25–22 for Benchwarmers.

With defeat assured, Rexel started the final set intensely and flew into a 5-0 lead.

Good link-up play between Jarryd Jamieson and Lukasz Prawdzik helped narrow Rexel’s lead to 11-9, but Rexel pushed ahead again to 16–11.

Paula Williamson put in a tireless shift in the back court, keeping Benchwarmers’ hopes alive at 21-17.

Rexel’s experience showed in the closing stages, holding firm to take the set 25–22.

Paul Hibbert and Ellie Nicolson were standouts for Rexel, and for Benchwarmers Steven Leask and Sarah-Marie Riise impressed.
