Sport / Gymnasts bound to best newcomers prize in Glasgow

SHETLAND Gymnastics Club has lifted the best newcomers prize at an event in Glasgow.

Twenty-two gymnasts, ranging in age from seven to 18, attended Sapphire Gymnastics Club’s 12th birthday festival over the weekend.

There they performed their Great Gatsby-inspired routine three times over the weekend, which consisted of choreographed dance, acrobatic balances and fast tumbles on a sprung floor.

It is said the club’s performances delighted the audience in Glasgow, eventually earning them the best newcomers award.

All of this came despite the club not having a sprung floor to practice on in Shetland, with the club training out of the Clickimin as it continues its search for its own dedicated gymnastics facility.

Shetland Gymnastics Club will be performing the award-winning Great Gatsby routine at its 20th anniversary display next year.
