Community / Large group of Norway vets enjoy trip to Shetland

A large group of people of various ages posing together in front of a stone building with a wooden door.

MORE than 30 veterinarians from Norway plus family members and a handful of sponsors visited Shetland earlier this month.

The visitors were members of a local veterinary association in the northern part of Norway.

Kay Roger Fjellsøy, who was part of the group, said the association has a “congress” every five years in places “which you would normally not go to”.

In the past the group have visited places like Murmansk, Iceland, Faroe and Spitsbergen.

The group – which totalled about 55 people – stayed in hotels in Lerwick but managed a visit to the Yell Show, the new Lerwick whisky distillery and the Scalloway Museum, while they also had a farm tour.

The vets also said they had the “most delicious soup of the year” at the Sumburgh Hotel before visiting Jarlshof and Sumburgh Head.

“It was a fantastic long-weekend that met our expectations all the way,” Kay Roger Fjellsøy said.
