NORTH Yell businesses have stumped up £20,000 between them as a donation to the push for tunnel studies in Shetland’s North Isles.
The cheque was presented at Uyeasound Sunday Teas, with companies RG Jamieson, CA Thomason, RS Henderson and Li6 contributing.
The Yell and Unst tunnel action groups recently launched their joint campaign to raise funds for initial investigations into sub-sea tunnels for the North Isles.
A public fundraising page is currently sitting at £11,000. A total of £100,000 had already been pledged for the project, with half coming from SaxaVord Spaceport and the other half from North Yell Development Council.
CURRENT hosts of short-term accommodation lets in Shetland have been reminded that they have until 1 October to apply for a licence to be able to continue to operate and take bookings beyond that date.
The council said that once received, applications will be considered as quickly as possible – although with a recent “influx of applications”, this may take some months.
Applicants are encouraged to read guidance on the council’s website here which may avoid the need to call or email.
