Business / Postal strike called off
A STRIKE among postal workers in the UK – including Shetland – which was due to take place today (Friday) has been called off following the death of the Queen.
Members of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) working for the Royal Mail were due to hold their latest strike day in the ongoing dispute over pay.
But CWU general secretary Dave Ward said: “Following the very sad news of the passing of the Queen, and out of respect for her service to the country and her family, the union has decided to call off tomorrow’s planned strike action.”
The first day of strike action from Royal Mail workers took place in Lerwick on 26 August, with CWU members also taking action on 31 August and 8 September.
Meanwhile the Royal Mail has issued guidance on stamps and postboxes following the Queen’s death.
