Letters / Hard to justify the expense
Last Saturday, HM Coastguard, a uniformed service, used a helicopter to carry out two medivacs.
An expensive operation but a totally justified use of public funds.
On the same day, the Royal Artillery performed a ‘Feu de Joie’ at Fort Charlotte, presumably to frighten the gulls hanging round the Fort Chip Shop.
I find it very hard to justify the expense of this exercise at a time of public austerity. The expression ‘Jolly’ comes to mind.
Accommodation for both passengers and freight on the Lerwick to Aberdeen run is critical. How many legitimate journeys had to be cancelled or delayed by this pantomime?
