COUNCIL staff have removed some gates in Lerwick to reduce the risk of coronavirus transmission on hard surfaces.

Gates have been taken down at Breiwick Road and Knab Road, with the area popular with walkers.

Gates at Hjaltland Place and below the skate park have also been tied open.

Shetland Islands Council said with the gates now removed, dog owners should consider keeping their dogs on a lead, if they think this is necessary.
