Business / Mead company ceases trading
A LOCAL company specialising in mead has gone into liquidation following the loss of a major customer earlier this year.
Viking Mead Ltd has ceased trading after struggling with profitability.
Brian Milne was appointed as provisional liquidator of the company on 7 August.
Viking Mead, which was headed by Alistair Morgan, recently launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise investment in the business and expand its reach.
Craig Allison of French Duncan Chartered Accountants said there were “no employees as at the date of Brian’s appointment, other than the directors, and we are working to value and dispose of any assets”.
Morgan received planning permission last year to turn the old Voe primary school in a brewery.
He also took over Unst’s Valhalla Brewery in 2017 and both brands are currently made on the island.
