Community / Althing returns

MeToo and Brexit will be on the agenda.

THE WINTER season of Althing debates will kick off later this month as a panel get set to discuss the motion ‘#MeToo is unfair to men’.

The debate will take place at Islesburgh Community Centre’s Room 12 at 7.30pm on Friday 23 November.

“Taking a theme of bullying and harassment to fit with Anti Bullying Week, the debate looks at the #MeToo campaign which has drawn attention to the scale of sexual assault and harassment against women,” organisers said.

Speaking for the motion will be Genny White and Billy Mycock, while Iain Souter and Vaila Macintyre will be speaking against.

On Saturday 8 December the Althing will return with the hot topic of Brexit, with the event not a debate but a forum where a panel of speakers will discuss what the Brexit deal means for Shetland.

Admission to both events is £2.
