POLICE in Shetland are looking for witnesses to come forward after a head on crash between Quarff and Fladdabister on Thursday afternoon was reported to have been caused by a dangerous overtaking manoeuvre.

Three people were taken to hospital after the collision between a Toyota Yaris and a Vauxhall Astra on the main A970 just after 5pm.

All emergency services attended and one lane of the road was blocked for a time.

Constable John Williamson said: “The dangerous overtake forced an oncoming vehicle to take evasive action in icy conditions resulting in a loss of control and a collision with another vehicle.

“Any witnesses are urged to contact police via telephone on ‘101’ or attend at Lerwick police station.”
