Showcases / George Robertson’s new kitchen showroom a ‘natural progression’

LONG-ESTABLISHED local appliance dealer and electrical contractor George Robertson (Shetland) Ltd is opening its brand new kitchen showroom later this week.

The dynamic young company has spent the last three years refurbishing the building adjacent to its premises at 3-4 Carlton Place, near Lerwick’s Hillhead.

The opening of the new showroom feels like a “natural progression” from the company’s core business, according to director Anna Moar, and also coincides with the 10th anniversary of a successful management buyout.

Anna, who is one of four directors, said the company was very much responding to customer demand.

“People have been buying their Neff cookers or Bloomberg fridges from us for many years and they have regularly asked if they could also buy a kitchen from us,” she said.

They have now teamed up with Nolte Küchen, a German manufacturer of high quality bespoke kitchens, to provide a one-stop-shop for anyone who is either looking to install a modern kitchen into a new house or modernise an existing kitchen.

Fellow director Lewis Moncrieff said the company offers “the whole package” from design, including site visits and the provision of ‘walk through’ videos, to delivery, installation and associated electrical work.

“Every kitchen is made to order,” he continued, “and installed by our own joiners.”

The latest development, which represents an investment of £300,000 with no public money involved, has also created three new jobs with a fourth employee likely to be recruited later in the year.

Lewis said the company, which trades online as GR Direct, is able to look back fondly at 10 years of steady growth during which the business has tripled its turnover and grown its staff numbers to 27, including three apprenticeships.

“We have been working very hard to build up the business. We have changed the brands according to customer demand, have extended our range to include TV and audio systems, and have now moved into providing complete kitchens. We want to see the company progressing,” Anna added.

The new showroom will be open for its first customers at 9am on Wednesday 15 February. There will be refreshments and cooking demonstrations, as well as the chance to speak to representatives from well-known brands such as Nolte, Bosch, Neff and Siemens.
