News / Power cut in the north

ALMOST 1,500 properties in the north of Shetland were without power for about 20 minutes on Sunday evening after a fault in the electricity supply.

A spokeswoman for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks said a fault in the high voltage overhead line resulted in 1,485 customers in Vidlin, Whalsay, Voe and nesting being cut off at 10.07pm.

“We would like to apologise to our customers for the inconvenience caused and thank them for their patience while our engineers worked to restore their power as quickly and as safely as possible,” she said

“Investigations into the cause of this fault are ongoing.”
