News / Ferry terminal upgrades

Laxo ferry terminal waiting room and public toilets.

WORK will get underway next week on renovating the public toilets and waiting rooms at the ferry terminals at Bressay and Laxo.

The rooms will be out of action for up to eight weeks from Wednesday as Shetland Islands Council changes the layout of the buildings to improve disabled access.

Work will also be done on internal fittings, fixtures and decor, while energy efficient LED lighting will be implemented.

In Bressay, the terminal car park will also be relined and a new fence will be erected next to the road.

A temporary unisex toilet will be provided at each site while the work, which is part of a three-year programme to improve ferry passenger facilities, is being done.

The council’s ferry manager Craig Robertson apologised for any inconvenience caused and added that it was “necessary to improve the overall condition of the ferry terminals and provide much needed disabled toilet access”.
