Letters / Sandbagging of democracy
Thank you for Peter Hamilton’s excellent letter (‘Conniving and despicable’, SN 7/5/16). He has hit the nail squarely on the head and I support him 100 per cent.
The crucially important future of Shetland Charitable Trust must not be “connived” away to the toy cupboard of an elite of local power brokers – the “undemocrats” – whose crass timing, mid-election and EU referendum, is designed to outflank public outrage.
Jonathan Wills’ proposal of eight trustees elected, seven appointed, is far too timid. There is no need for any permanent trustee to be unelected. Quite the reverse.
This sandbagging of democracy by the “undemocrats” must not be allowed to happen.
