News / Denies supermarket theft

A THIRTY four year old man has denied taking a car without consent before going on to steal groceries and a television from a Lerwick supermarket.

Peter Henderson, of 10 Kalliness, Weisdale, denied a total of seven charges when he appeared from custody at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Tuesday afternoon.

He is accused of stealing a car key and taking and driving a car from the town’s Ladies Drive on Monday.

Henderson is said to have done so while disqualified from driving or a valid insurance policy. It is also alleged that the vehicle in question did not have a valid test certificate.

He also denies stealing a quantity of groceries and a television from The Co-operative supermarket on Lerwick’s Holmsgarth Road.

Finally, he is accused of failing to provide information to police.

Henderson was granted bail by honorary sheriff Willie Shannon and will face trial on 26 May, with an intermediate diet on 26 April.
