News / Accused of two assaults

A TWENTY five year old man accused of assaulting his partner twice in successive days just after New Year was granted bail when he appeared at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Monday.

John Hutcheson, of 15 North Road, Lerwick, saw his case continued without plea until 20 January.

He is accused of assaulting his partner at his home address on 3 January and repeatedly striking her on the head, before repeating the assault a day later.

Meanwhile, a first offender who caused a disturbance after drinking heavily at the weekend has had sentence deferred for her to be of good behaviour.

Morgan Mellor-Ross, 20, pleaded guilty to attempting to damage household fixtures and fittings and behaving aggressively at her home address of 9B St Magnus Street after going out and drinking heavily on Friday night.

Honorary sheriff Sandy Cluness described it as an “unfortunate” incident. She will reappear before the court on 11 May.
