Letters / Could do better, Danus!
SNP prospective candidate Danus Skene, writing about ferry subsidies in this week’s Shetland Times, says: “At the top of the list of things that government can and should do to level the playing field for island communities is to enable the provision of effective and affordable transport.”
Odd that. Scottish Government figures released in parliament show that from 2013 to 2015-15, ferry subsidies to the Western Isles have risen dramatically while those to the Northern Isles have fallen substantially.
The “playing field” is being steepened, not “leveled”.

So the retired schoolmaster didn’t do his homework – “could do better”, Danus!
These figures are further evidence supporting Wir Shetland’s contention that Shetland is being systematically short-changed by the SNP Scottish Government and that their Islands Bill and its associated “consultation” are a sham.
