Features / A smorgasbord of Swedish talent for Bonhoga
SWEDISH art, design and craft will be celebrated in a new exhibition at Bonhoga Gallery this winter.
Svenska will open to the public on 30 October and it will feature a smorgasbord of Scandinavian talent.
Among the items on display at the Weisdale gallery will be the work of five printmakers from Gotland, who form the Grafikgruppen group.
Swedish studios Maria Byman, Sägen and Littlephant will showcase contemporary items such as jewellery, ceramics, homewares and textiles.
A rug from Lithuanian artist Severija Inčirauskaitė-Kriaunevičienė that was previously on display in Stockholm will feature.
There will also be a Shetland connection to the Svenska exhibition.
Karen Clubb will show off new pieces of art inspired by her time living and working in Sweden, while local artists Mike Finnie and Anne Bain will present work created after travelling to the country last year through a Shetland Arts visual art and craft award.
Bonhoga’s shop and lower gallery will offer a range of Swedish gifts and decorations fit for the upcoming festive period, with everything from children’s smucks and kitchen accessories on offer.
Jane Matthews of Shetland Arts said: “We chose to build on existing links with Sweden to create a really lavish collection of work for the Christmas show at Bonhoga this year.
“It celebrates the best in contemporary art and design with a focus on Sweden and its reputation for classic, chic design.”
The public opening of Svenska will take place on Friday 30 October from 6pm to 7.30pm. The exhibition will run until the end of the year.
