NorthLink could surely have managed to get the family on board somehow, even if it meant getting the link back into place. Other passengers would not have been inconvenienced.

To make sure this is not repeated the NHS needs to look into the journey time estimate used by the firm that took the family from Glasgow to Aberdeen.
