News / Lucky escape

The hydro pole snapped when hit by the van - Photo: Gary Smith/Shetland News

THE DRIVER of a delivery van had a lucky escape in Burra on Thursday when his vehicle was blown over by gale force winds and smashed against an electricity pole.

Electricity was off for more than three hours in parts of Burra to allow engineers to replace the pole. Everybody was re-connected by 4.18pm.

Police said no one was injured in the one vehicle road traffic accident which occurred at 12.30.
