Letters / Latter day Tokyo Rose
I see that you have received another email from cyberspace from the mysterious “Catriona Murray” (Islands referenda; SN 8/4/14), who is only prepared to communicate from behind an email address, refusing to furnish a proper address, or answer questions either on the phone or in person – sort of a latter-day “Tokyo Rose”!
I think we are entitled to ask who this person is, where they are actually living at a proper address (presumably not in the islands), and why the excessive secrecy and subterfuge surrounding this whole palaver.
If I write a letter to The Shetland Times or any other newspaper I am required to give my proper postal address as authentication and I am happy to do so as I am fully prepared to stand by my opinions as publicly expressed.
I expect no less transparency from other people who post their opinions in public.

Shetland News is asking its many readers to consider start paying for their dose of the latest local news delivered straight to their PC, tablet or mobile phone.
Journalism comes at a price and because that price is not being paid in today’s rapidly changing media world, most publishers - national and local - struggle financially despite very healthy audience figures.
Most online publishers have started charging for access to their websites, others have chosen a different route. Shetland News currently has over 600 supporters who are all making small voluntary financial contributions. All funds go towards covering our cost and improving the service further.
Your contribution will ensure Shetland News can: -
- Bring you the headlines as they happen;
- Stay editorially independent;
- Give a voice to the community;
- Grow site traffic further;
- Research and publish more in-depth news, including more Shetland Lives features.
