Letters / Respect for opponents
Does Mr Tinkler feel that an intelligent young woman such as Louise Thomason is incapable of forming her own opinion on Scottish independence without being influenced by “nationalist mantra”?
It may have escaped Mr Tinkler’s notice but the SNP is very popular in Scotland. The last opinion poll I saw indicated 43 per cent support which must be approaching a record for a party in its third year of office.
Does Mr Tinkler feel that this popularity is due to the fact that we are all mesmerised by the mantras we chant every day, or could it be because the SNP have shown themselves to be very good administrators and because most of us believe them when they say that on independence one of their main aims will be the establishment of a fairer society?
I have noticed that Mr Tinkler has an irrational hatred of nationalists. Maybe he should try speaking to some of them. He would no doubt be surprised to discover that we are not all bigots and most of us have respect for the views of our opponents.
