Letters / We need chips
In response to Sal North’s comments about money wasted on chips, I’m afraid that it’s something that has to be done otherwise our roads would be a lot more expensive to maintain especially with the latest reports about them.
Yes, it might be a bit annoying that the chips are damaging cars and cracking windscreens, but if drivers would keep to the 20mph speed limits for a week or two then this would not happen.
Chipping the roads protects the original tar from the severe weather which we can have in Shetland and is much cheaper than closing roads and a lot of resurfacing which annoys drivers even more.
