Letters / Afraid to protest
Interesting that Ollaberry wind farmer and prospective SIC councillor Drew Ratter states on Shetland News that the ‘Council has nothing to do with Viking’. (11 April 2012).
This will indeed be welcome news to all those SIC employees who say that they would like to speak out against the Viking wind farm but are afraid to do so.
The reason for their fear is the recent problems encountered by a SIC employee for publicly criticising the council.
Viking Energy Limited does not employ SIC staff, only some SIC councillors, so council employees can feel free to criticise Viking’s plans without threat of punishment.
If you are a council employee and wish to speak up against the violation of Shetland’s landscape by wind farm development then I hope that Mr Ratter (if elected) and all other councillors would defend your right to do so.
