News / Skipper fined for being drunk at the helm

THE SKIPPER of the Fraserburgh registered fishing boat Falcon was fined £1,400 for being in charge of a boat while under the influence of alcohol.

Steven Simon Hay, of 25 Gilmour Crescent, Lossiemouth, pled guilty to the charge when he appeared from custody before Lerwick Sheriff Court on Monday.

The 53 year old admitted having been two and half times over the legal limit when arrested in Lerwick harbour, in the early hours of Saturday.

Meanwhile, a 41 year old Lerwick man appeared from custody before the court on a charge of possessing a personal quantity of heroin.

The case against Iain Raymond Tulloch, of 38 Hoofields, was continued without plea, and Tulloch was remanded in custody.

He had been arrested at Laurenson Quay on Saturday evening after police officers searched him following a tip off.
