News / Three times the limit

A FIFTY year old man from Cunningsburgh was banned from driving for two years after pleading guilty to being three times over the legal limit for alcohol when he was stopped by police on the A970 at Quarff, in the early hours of Saturday.

Appearing from custody before Lerwick Sheriff Court on Monday, Brian Thomas Henderson, of Park Cottage, was also fined £700.

He was told that he could reduce the period of disqualification by six months should he successfully complete a drink driver rehabilitation course.

Meanwhile a case against Matthew Smith, of 4 Grostane, Lerwick, for assault and breach of the peace was continued without plea until 23 February.

The 25 year old is charged with behaving in a threatening and abusive manner, punching a hole in a partition and struggling with those present at a house in Lerwick, on Sunday.

Smith was remanded in custody until his next court appearance when he will also be called on two other matters.
